I stared straight ahead in front of a mirror focusing on that blank gaze. In silence where this is an absence of thought, I knocked on that reflection and I heard the voice. I decided to experiment with the power of mirror through my camera lens.
If it
reflects how reality appears in my conscious, my photographic journey might witness an evolution of my perceptions. In search of truth,
my images become a projection of my current state of mind and portraits of
myself.
My original gesture
was collecting family archives and capturing family heritage. A sense of lack
led me to scrutinize memorabilia as if answers would come up! Captured by patterns and ornaments engraved on cement tiles, I retrace some
stories. The Red thread links me to my lineage and becomes a metaphor of a kind
of awareness.
I become the maker and the observer of my photographs. From that mirror, I can capture the beauty of the unpredictable present and I experiment moments of detachment. In the momentum of creation and contemplation, images are materialized. I project patterns, hang sheets, embroider canvas, hold bricks and build mosaics to revive and free what was suppressed in walls. Overlaying between the lightness of chiffon and the texture of concrete, the perception might achieve a new version of harmony.
My studio turns into free space of dialogues between the past and the present. Embracing emotions, it allows time for memories to take form in three-dimensional spaces and settle into materials. A space of self-awareness offers the freedom to transform the intangible past into the tangible present using installations. From stories of inspiration, I choose to build my reality based on their cultural imprint.
